Galuwa is a Sydney area Aboriginal word meaning “To Climb”.

Galuwa Program provides scholarships to support 10 Aboriginal students each year with tutoring and financial support for their education. Galuwa is generously sponsored by Glencore and the program is administered by the NSW Department of Education, Tamworth Educational Services.

The 2017 Galuwa Ceremony was held at The Great Aussie Bush Camp, Tea Gardens on the 16th May 2017, the successful year 6 applicants received a certificate recognising their success in front of their families, school staff and the Galuwa scholarship students who have received the scholarship in previous year.

Two of the ten Galuwa recipients this year attend schools within Maitland local AECG area. We would like to congratulate the recipients from Beresfield PS and Bolwarra PS. The addition of these students to the Galuwa program, brings the total number students in receipt of a Galuwa scholarship in the Maitland area to ten including Yr 7 and 8 students from Rutherford Technology High School, Maitland High School, Maitland Grossmann High School and Francis Greenway High School.
