Maitland Grossmann High School’s budding young Aboriginal artist

Charli Phillips-Mercer recently presented these clapsticks to school principal Dr Di Soltau at a school assembly.

Last year, the school was given the wooden clap sticks as part of a Corrobboree held at the school. Pauline Mitchell, our Aboriginal Liaison person, suggested that Charli paint them. Pauline was obviously aware of Charli’s artistic talents.

Charli was recently awarded runner-up in the National Aboriginal Art Competition GAMBAR, with her artwork in the 12–18 age category. Charli’s painting was to incorporate connections and identity.

Charli is just completing Year 7, so she will be an asset at MGHS for many years to come. We are very proud of her talents and efforts.
